FFF (forward flowforming)

A cold metal forming process where the row material (or preform) movement flows in the same direction than rollers advance do by means of a unique and single stroke. FFF is recommended for the manufacture of seamless and accurate cylindrically symmetrical hollow parts with one bottom that are uselly found at the aerospace, defense, and oil & gas industries, among others.

Flowforming

A cold metal-forming operation, in which thick blanks of aluminium, copper, brass, mild steel or titanium are made to flow plastically by rolling them under pressure to form components, often conical, having a wall thickness much less than the original blank thickness. Also flospinning.

Forge

The operation of shaping malleable materials by means of hammers or presses.

A metal gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more surfaces.

Milk can

A large can for transporting milk.

Musical instrument

Any object that produces musical sounds.

N

Nacell inlet lip skin / nose cowl

The nacelle is a housing, separate from the fuselage, that holds the engine, whose inlet incorporates a lip skin.
An aircraft engine nacelle comprises: (a) an inlet lip and a skin having internal and external surfaces; (b) a noise abatement structure such as an acoustic panel located on the internal surface of the nacelle skin; and (c) an electrically powered de-icing system located on the external surface of the nacelle skin and in electrical connection to a power source.

O

Outdoor lighting parts

Any of the components for any of the artificial light sources which are usually located outside to illuminate the ambience. A street light, light pole, lamppost, and street lamps are typical outdoor lighting fixture.

P

Pendant light/ barn light

A pendant light (drop or suspender) is a any light fixture hangs from the celaing by means of a cord, chain, or metal rod.
A barn light is a downward-facing light fixture with a wide, simple shade. Sometimes, rustic-looking light fixtures are called “barn lights” as well.

Petrochemical industry

A branch of heavy industry encompassing the production of synthetic materials and items, mainly from products derived from the refining of petroleum and natural fuel gases.

Poly-V belt

"Serpentine" or "drive" belt, which connects and runs several components in an engine at the same time.

Retainer or ring that keeps one thing apart from another.

Shaping/ forming/ drawing

Changing the shape of a metal component. Cf drawing.

Shear forming/ shear spinning

Shear forming, also referred as shear spinning, is similar to metal spinning. In shear spinning the area of the final piece is approximately equal to that of the flat sheet metal blank. The wall thickness is maintained by controlling the gap between the roller and the mandrel. In shear forming, which is done in one strocke, a reduction of the wall thickness occurs by achiving upto 75%.

Spinning

Spinning is forming a metal disk into a hollow shape by rotating it in a lathe over a former or chuck, by pressing a spinning tool against it.
Strain of a initial workpiece of metallic material by means of rotatory speed and pressure of rollers against the initial workpiece and the chuck.

Storage vessel/storage tank

A large (usually metallic) vessel for holding gases or liquids. The term can be used for reservoirs (artificial lakes and ponds), and for manufactured containers.
Storage tanks containing organic liquids, non organic liquids, vapors and can be found in many industries. Most storage tanks are designed and built to the American Petroleum Institute API-650 specification.
These tanks can have different sizes, ranging from 2 to 60 m diameter or more. They are generally installed inside containment basins in order to contain spills in case of rupture of the tank.
Industries where storage tanks can be found are: petroleum producing and refining, petrochemical and chemical manufacturing, bulk storage and transfer operations, other industries consuming or producing liquids and vapors.
